The Gift From The Future
This was made for the 4th Twenty-Four Hour Animation Contest at Brickfilms.com (hence the inclusion of the letter P in every shot to ensure nobody cheated). I didn't get any sleep for around 30 hours. It was quite disorienting, but incredibly fun. This is definitely a very random film.
It missed third place in the contest by only one point.
Winner of the BAFA award for Best Lead Voice Actor.

Hastings
Hastings was my major project for 2007, a historical film about the Battle of Hastings in 1066 focusing on Harold Godwinson, the last Anglo-Saxon king of England. I had to cut out the last part of the script, resulting in an abrupt ending. On the whole, it's not what I thought it would be, but I'm glad to have it behind me. I learned a whole lot from making it as well.
Winner of the BAFA award for Best Cinematography.

The Crucible - trailer
In my English class, the teacher gave a interesting assignment; we wers supposed to create some kind of promotional material for a hypothetical stage or film production of The Crucible, Arthur Miller's drama about the Salem witchcraft trials in 1692. This was my first film made with my new Nikon D40x, as well as the first film where I relied (with one exception) on people from school for the voices. I'm extremely satisfied with the result.

Spontaneous Insanity
This is my extremely immature entry in the 3rd Twenty-Four Animation Contest at Brickfilms.com. I got my copy of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows that same day, so I was either reading it or thinking about it for large amounts of time. So in the end, I had a rather rushed entry with not much of a plot. Some people may find it enjoyable, though.

Night of the Tater
An entry in the Brickfilms.com "Inventions, Discoveries, Extraordinary Achievements" contest (IDEA), this marks my first attempt at film noir cinematography, something that was immensely fun to do. I stayed up until after midnight for around 10 consecutive days to do the bulk of the animation, something which is not easy, especially during a hot summer. I'll fill everyone in on the results of the contest when they come.

The Day Brickfilms.com Crashed (clip)
My short contribution to a film covering one of humanity's darkest hours - the day Brickfilms.com crashed. The entire film runs for around eight minutes and was made by 13 people across the globe. My segment was hailed by many as being one of the high points of the film, something which I am very proud of. The idea came pretty spontaneously and was animated completely on the fly - I didn't know what would happen when I took the first frame. Not that it mattered...

iPhone Advertisement
A short entry in an online competition for animated and live-action films. The goal was to create an advertisement for Apple's new iPhone. The only requirement was to include the line "I'm an iPhone". Unfortunately, it didn't make it to the finals, but I liked making it. Strangely, none of the brickfilm entries (two of which were incredible) didn't make it to the finals, while several awful videos did. Talk about evil judges.

Encounter in the Lost City
Made as a special project for my art class in school, this film is my first film created on a Mac. I placed a lot of emphasis on technical aspects such as lighting, camera angles and editing.

History in Thirty Seconds: Zheng He
This is the second part of an open series started by Brickfilms member Shale. I got the idea for it after reading a National Geographic article on the Chinese explorer and diplomat Zheng He. I experimented with a 1:2.5 aspect ratio and some interesting shots, but the whole thing was rather rushed. As a result, it's probably my least favorite film I've made. You can still watch it, though, and see for yourself.

Untitled Mini-Contest entry
My entry in a one-week mini-contest in Brickfilms.com forums. The goal was to animate a 30-second fight scene. Despite some technical flaws (oh, that horrible light flicker!), I placed 2nd out of 5 entries.

Escaping Doomsday
I scripted, animated and edited this film in 24 grueling hours (with 6 hours of sleep) as part of the Brickfilms.com 24-Hour Animation Contest 2 (THAC2). In order to ensure that nobody cheated, a special "mod element" was announced at the beginning of the time period. This element had to be included in physical form in every shot, proving that the footage was filmed in the 24 hours. This time, it was the letter E. See if you can find it.

Attack of the Undead Skeleton Warriors
Despite the shaky animation and light flickers, I'm pretty proud of this film. It's my first "long" film, and I put quite a bit of effort into the sets and the music. On Brickfilms.com, many people cited those two things as being the film's strong points. Somebody else also pointed out the similarities to old silent films, which I noticed as well.

Montage Clip: The Fellowship of the Ring
In early 2006, a call went out on Brickfilms.com for recreations of iconic film scenes for a montage, which would then be shown at BrickFest 2006 in Washington DC. I thought it would be a great thing to do, so I chose a scene from one of my favorite movies ever: Peter Jackson's epic adaptation of The Lord of the Rings. If you haven't seen it yet, kindly do so without further delay. This clip features the voice of Sir Ian McKellen as Gandalf. In the end, it wasn't selected for the montage, but it was fun to make nonetheless.
